Rick Butts Ex Long Haired Rock and Roll Guitar Player

Rick Butts Hotline:

Yes, it's true, Rick Butts began his entertainment career in a rock and roll band.

"My Dad, Ron Butts, bought me a guitar for my 16th birthday, a white Stratocaster knockoff and it was the sweetest thing in the world. My Dad was a rep for several electronics companies like Sylvania, York Electronics, and Motorola back in the 1950's and early 1960's and was a bit of a wire head. He took a Bogen amp and a Seeburg Jukebox speaker and we made my first electric guitar amp out of it!"

Rick promptly put a glow in the dark Toucan sticker from Fruit Looks on the pickguard and hacking out tunes from Neil Young and Beatles song books.

"My brother Randy got a guitar later, and we were jamming. I broke the little E and B strings on my guitar, which left me with the 4 strings that a bass would have.

I started playing bass lines, cause it was hard to find strings without a car, and as fate would have it - when we got together with another guitar player, who could really play, and a girl drummer Carol Tietmeier, whom I would later actually marry, Randy became the rythem guitarist, Les Noland the lead player, and I got the gig as the bass player.

Les's brother Patrick had a Hofner copy Beatles style bass guitar - and the first time I played a real bass was in rehearsal for the school talent show.

The first song I ever played live was George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the White Album. Cool, huh? I am sure I totally sucked but we were very cool though we lost the contest to our own drummer who did a drum solo and lit her sticks on fire.

That is when I learned about showmanship."

Ron Paul Chooses Ostrich Costume for Halloween

This is hilarious. Ron Paul, presidential candidate known best for his libertarian values - getting the government off our backs - and being completely deluded about the threat posed by Islamic fundamentalists, chose a very funny Halloween costume.

Paul makes a strong effort to tie his message to "strong conservative Republican" values. Who can argue that we have huge needs here in the good old USA, or that we could solve all of our financial concerns back home if we didn't spend any of the billions of dollars we do around the world?

But, the tragic realities of isolationism are so dangerous, I simply cannot imagine how a man as intelligent and experienced as Ron Paul could not see the amazing 90lb ostrich in the room.

Ron Paul is a Texas congressman in whose district I used to live... I voted for this guy 16 years ago!

Rick Butts Official Web Site

Rick Butts has shifted his official web site to RickButts.net.

There seems to be some sort of penalty being exercised on the .com version of the site so I've moved my official home page to the .net site.

I'm leaning towards going for the secondary keyphrase being marketing ideas - since that is what I seem to generate most.

Also included on the site will be site reviews, product reviews, marketing tips, and un-packing marketing stuff that works for small business owners.

Please leave your comments on this blog and go visit the new site and tell me what you think?

I appreciate it all.

Nashville Speakers Stealing Leads from Rick Butts

Speaker bureas continue stealing leads from speakers by running Google ads for their name - without permission. See the latest "foul" by Nashville Speakers Bureau.

Despite the President of the Speaker Bureau Association circulating an article published in Fortune Magazine showing how International Speakers Bureau and others had been stealing speaking leads for Jeff Bezos and other high profile speakers - it continues.

Death of Speaker Bureaus, a watchdog for the professional speaking and motivational speaker business - exposes the latest violation.

Despite the fact that Rick Butts quit professional speaking in the Spring of 2006, Nashville Speakers Bureau is running ads for his name in Google Adwords.

Why?

Well, Rick still gets calls from people who had hired him in the past. He has thousands of books out there - and if someone is looking for a speaker - why not do a "lead trapping" on him and then sell them to someone else?

You make the call.

The speaker bureau business is in trouble financially because they are being squeezed out by the Internet - so they've gotten down and dirty to stay alive.

The Death of Speaker Bureaus is spelled out clearly in the hot new Ebook by the same name.

Read it and see why all businesses need to examine their viability in light of the new trends in "recommendations" vs "sales."

Rick Butts back in black

Rick Butts, author, performance artist and Internet marketing consultant is back on Blogger.com!

"The Google bot doesn't seem to like my regular website so I've started posting again at RickButts.net

It's not a perfect solution but hey, dot net is better than dot NOT.

I'm in the process of learning Howie Schwartz's Conversation Domination and Jack Humphrey's Authority Site System and having a blast.
